Why
Immersive
Experience?
Have you ever dreamed about experiencing different lives? I have. And I am obsessed with it.
When I was little, I would turn off the TV after an episode was over, sat alone at my window for hours imagining myself as one of the characters, continuing the story in my head. I would tear my grandpa’s hand-tied knots apart to wear it on my head; I would take the drain cap as a high heel (god knows why), step on it, and with no doubt, break it; I would call a random number and announce my diagnosis as if I was their doctor; I would talk to the mirror, acting like scared and confused, only to scare and confuse my mom who “accidentally” opened my door.
Life became more… tamed, as I grew up, but not my wild thoughts. When my much wiser classmates were so dedicated to the only career they chose for themselves, I was, simultaneously or sequentially, a journalist, a teacher, a marketing coordinator, a model, and a live streamer, in an attempt to expand my database of the diversity in human beings. This is where I began my journey as an immersive experience designer, when I created plays and events that featured different backstories, typifying or dramatizing the reality.
I was dazzled by the glamorous diversity at first, but overtime the excitement transformed into the rumination of the commonalities in human nature, because all seem to point to the essence of existence, desires and emotions. So I started to integrate philosophical or controversial topics (life and death, good and evil, etc.) in my design, embedding decision making points in the participant’s journey that encourage revisiting of one’s values and subconsciousness.
Now with 4 years of experience in immersive theater and event planning, my focus is to seamlessly blend entertaining, thought-provoking and emotion-arousing elements in my design, which will make the flow of the experience smoother and bring stronger immersion.
